Success: Beating cold weather static

I have longish hair and I hate how cold dry weather means crazy static.  In and out of coats all day, add to that scarves, and sweaters…yeah ridiculous. I pretty much constantly look like I have stuck my finger in a low voltage eletrical outlet.  Last winter I decided to try storing my hairbrush in a dryer sheet.  After brush my hair,  I just wrap one around it, and throw it back in it’s basket.  By the end of the day I do have some static.  But I don’t start the day out with static, and it controls I would say 85% of the shocking properties of dry coldness on any given day.  In my book that = success.

Dig it!: Fisher-Price Shake and Go Racers Batcycle

So while shopping for a birthday present for my nephew who turned 5, I found this Batcycle.   He likes cars and trucks and all things that go vroom, but I have a hard time finding anything cool and different that isn’t a million bucks.  But this one is cool.  And I know this because I had to get Ben one too…. It is a great addition to any 2-6 year olds vehicle collection.  You simply switch it on, pick it up, give it a good shake, and Batman is off to save the day!  Complete with engine revving sounds, and cool Batman sayings, the more you shake it, the further it goes.  Also good to know, it works equally well on carpet and tile, and rarely tips over.  I think it would be the perfect stocking stuffer for any little ‘un this year.   Just make sure to switch it off before stuffing, as even the tinyiest bump will cause Batman to start his engine.

DIG IT: Praeventia Cookies

Every once in a while every other week, I get into nutty health kicks. Some of you nutz out there will love these reviews some of you others will probably roll your eyes and skim the post. That is okay. A couple past kicks I have been into are: Wheat Germ, Flax Seed, Kombucha Tea, prebiotics and probiotics, and soy. Yeah… and I never really get over my kicks I just simmer down and add new ones. My product I am touting today goes under the prebiotics category and I LOOOOOOOVE IT! AND! If anyone is still reading this post its also CHOCOLATE! AND SHAPED LIKE HEARTS! Hello? Hello? Anyone there?

Anyways, at Target (TARGET folks!) I bought some Dark Chocolate Chip with Red Wine Extract Praeventia cookies. Delish! They are really tasty and they have inulin in them which is suppose to be good for digestive health.

Oops, I forgot a little disclaimer. Do NOT expect me to come out with a super health diet plan or fitness video. I am just a chubby twenty something lady NOT a health guru.- nor do I expect anyone to actually think my kicks are based on real science. I am just strange. Though, a fitness video would be hilarious…. That said- eat these cookies. The will make you feel less guilty about snacking, plus they stop you from eating too many or they will make you fart. TRUST ME.

TRIAL CONCLUSION: Cheap Prescription Eyeglasses

Last week I received my glasses I ordered online. I ordered them from http://www.glassescrafter.com/. I bought glasses that look like THESE but are blue. Cute, right?

  • First things first: Would I order glasses from them again? Probably not. While I like my glasses and they look just like I thought they would- I’m not sure I would have picked out the same frames for my face if I could have tried them on first.
  • BUT: They were cheap (sixty bucks for everything- even S&H!) and cute and took about a week to get here. Not bad!
  • Also, they asked some questions about the lenses that my written prescription didn’t have answers too. So, umm…. I guessed. They make me feel a little wonky when I wear them. Is that bad? I would for sure recommend calling your eye doctor and finding out all the info if you decide to order them.

Anyways- ALL and ALL- I’m calling this TRIAL an semi-ERROR. One big wonky-eyed wOops.

Dig it!: method’s omop™ all floor cleaner lemon ginger

Ceramic tile + almost 3 year old + food, crayons, play doh, mud, thinkgs I can’t even imagine= need for a effective, fast way to clean up.   Not only is method’s all floor cleaner effective and fast, it is non toxic and biodegradable.   I just use the handy sprayer to either spot mop under his chair, or do a full spray of the floor and then run my mop under super hot water, rinsing as I go.  The only thing that would work better for me is if I could just set it on the floor and it would mop with out me….someone should get on that.

Dig it: Desert Essence Products

I guess since I am 27, I now am considered to have something that docs like to call adult acne. Maybe since I am an adult I have a problem with teeny acne meds plus I don’t like alot of chemicals. I really like Desert Essence products– I have mostly used the tea tree products and my newest fave is the Blemish Touch Stick which I carry around in my purse and roll over zits blemishes when I think about it. I really like the cleanser wipes too. BUT you know what I hate? The amount of dirt my face always seems to carry- wtf? I’m not a ditch digger. Also, if you are adverse to smelling like a hippie don’t buy this. I don’t mind it so much.

Also- the touch stick is only 5 dollars at Trader Joe’s. I only recently bought it because I am cheap and thought that it was steep but according to the link above- five dollars is a bargain!

Success: Mission’s 96% Fat Free Heart Healthy Tortillas

I have made two different dinners with these tortillas and they are awesome.  I hate tortillas that don’t stay soft, and I have had a hard time finding ones that are easy to work with.  We have had them with black bean taquitos and naked chicken burrito bowls.  I have yet to try the multi-grain version from this brand, but if you are in the market for a more than just your plain ol flour tortilla, I say give these a go!

PS Black Bean Taquitos delicious, kid friendly and just plain easy to make and adapt.  I used a combination of 1 can of each black beans and fat free refried beans heated together and then mashed with a fork.  To which I added my choice of seasonings, green onions and cheese.  I then rolled them up and baked them for 15 minutes.  Serve them with salsa, sour cream, guacamole for a yummy snack, or filling dinner.  Next time I will probably add some chicken or shredded pork to the mix.

Error: Zucchini Fries

So with dinner tonight I attempted to make zucchini fries…. The recipe was simple, sounded like a nice way to get a veggie on the plate.  It went like this, cut up zucchini, salt, wrap in paper towel to remove excess water, add small amount of flour, fry in olive oil.   I don’t know what went wrong.  I don’t know if I cut them too thin, I don’t know if it wasn’t enough flour or I didn’t get enough water off.  They were awful.  They are supposed to fry like 6-7 minutes.  Instead I got soggy, oily not at all good mess.  I think I need a new recipe… or just stick with potatoes
